Sustained in Unsustainable Times

When builders build homes the first thing, they lay is the foundation, which is the most crucial part of the house. Any mistake you make in the foundation will only get worse as the house goes up. The foundation of a house demands our highest focus and attention because the entire home sits on it. The foundation allows the house to be safe and sustainable to hold the weight.

Owning a home is wonderful and we pride on all the beauty of the home. The decorations and all the added decor to make it unique and beautiful. Beauty catches the eye of family and friends when they come for a visit. However beautiful, it is the unseen thing, the most important, the foundation though not revealed to the natural eye, is what makes the home stand alone, no pun intended lol! because it keeps the occupants safe.  Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.  From this portion of scripture, we can see what happens when we build our lives on Christ, the solid rock, the foundation, and what happens when we do not.

We are the house, and each of us has chosen what foundation we have built upon. Peradventure, some have been constructed on the foundation of the theology of their favorite preacher, religion, theology, and not the word of God. Peradventure, some have built their foundation on titles and names, positions and so many other things. Thank God some are built on the right foundation, which is Christ. Psalms 11:3 say “if the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do?”, meaning if everything falls apart.  Everything will fall apart if we are not built on Christ.  The only one foundation and word that will never pass away is the word of God, the solid rock.

In these unprecedented times in a generation with pandemics, if not secure on the rock of Christ it’s easy to be tossed to and fro from fear and uncertainty. This generation has become corrupt before God, and the earth filled with violence as in the days of Noah, Genesis 6:11.  If we are to survive, we must be standing on the solid rock Jesus Christ. Timothy spoke of times such as these that would be and are hard to deal with.  We can clearly see we are now living in those times. The type of foundation we are built on is being revealed as everything is being shaken but the kingdom of God which is within.  The bible must be the believer’s foundation period.  If we are built on the foundation of Christ, we can sustain the winds of our times.  Regardless what happens outside, we are to be sustained inside where Christ dwells.

The reality is Christ is our life, and the other truth is he that loses his life find it.  Matthew 16:25-26 reads to lose our lives is to die to ourselves, meaning, to lose sight of to forget ourselves, our interest, and take up our cross daily and follow him.  The losing of our own lives is a part of being sustained and kept by God. We have no power to keep ourselves.

Perhaps, in these times of chaos, you are caught in the strong winds of confusion, doubt, and uncertainty that has blown you off your foundation.  Fret not; all is not lost Christ who is life and is the builder and architect according to Hebrews 11:10 is waiting for you to decide for him to become your builder and foundation that will sustain and keep you.

Of course, you and I know it’s not that easy because we have to be willing to let go of our former life and choose Christ and his divine will and plan for our lives.  Let me tell you from experience most of what I thought was it was not, but I was willing and yielded though it cost me everything. Though the winds are blowing I am sustained because I am hidden in Christ. When you are hidden nothing from the external can reach the internal where Christ dwells and sustains you. Be encouraged my friends and look within.
